2024: Fast Forward – Founder’s Letter

Editor in Chief Cece Woods considers herself the “accidental activist”.…
Happy 2024 beautiful souls.
As we enter this number 8 year, signifying abundance in numerology, and the year of the dragon in Chinese Astrology, we are perfectly poised for a prosperous and dramatic year in all areas of our life.
And we couldn’t think of a better way to usher in the abundant energy, than to release issue #1 of 2024 on the first new moon of the year (yes we are that serious about it!).
Our cover feature is singer/musician Indio Downey who is not only So Cal born and bred, he was raised in the quintessential celebrity Hollywood lifestyle, and is the son of highly acclaimed actor Robert Downey Jr.
Indio is currently forging his own path in the music industry releasing three songs in the last year, and based on what we’ve heard so far, the greatness gene runs deep in the Downey DNA.
Switching gears to the serious stuff, this issue we will also be focusing on the profound change that needs to occur in LA County public safety.
As the high-profile District Attorney’s race heats up, Cali Mag sits down with Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami, a 17-year veteran prosecutor best known for the Gabriel Fernandez case and Netflix documentary, who reveals his plan to restore law and order in our iconic city and county, which lost its luster when George Gascon took office in December 2020. Hatami has been outspoken against his boss’s directives, contributing to a catastrophic rise in crime, and vows to restore faith in the DA’s officeholding criminals accountable and allowing citizens to feel safe again.
Lots of interesting and important stories to unpack and explore in this new year!
